We were founded in 1987 in Tigard, Oregon by Joel Kamerman, his parents Robert and Tudy Kamerman, and Roger Bates. Our objective from the beginning was to create premier products and differentiate ourselves through industrial design and value-added software. We introduced the Cirrus Drive, the first external drive to win an industrial design award. Our early focus on SCSI interface standard for connecting external devices made us closely associated with the Apple Macintosh platform.
In 1995, French company électronique d2, founded in Paris in 1989 by Pierre Fournier and Philippe Spruch, acquired La Cie. The combined company became the largest aftermarket data storage supplier for the Apple computer market. In 1998, we adopted LaCie as a worldwide brand name, unifying our operations. We went public on the Paris Stock Exchange's Nouveau Marché and expanded our global footprint with subsidiaries across Europe, North America, and Australia.
In 2012, Seagate Technology announced plans to purchase LaCie for $186 million, and the acquisition was completed in 2014. Today, we operate as Seagate's premium brand, continuing to design world-class storage solutions for photographers, videographers, audio professionals, and other creative power users. We combine design and technology to create products that are both beautiful and performance-driven.
